Lewisham Manor Scout District (the District) is a Registered Charity (No. 1001668) constituted in accordance with the Rules of The Scout Association and registered with The Association.  We are situated in an area consisting of the southern and western parts of the London Borough of Lewisham.

The District has 2 Explorer Scout Units (Explorer Scouts aged 14 - 18) and 15 Groups.

Those Groups comprise:

11 Scout Troops (Scouts 10½  - 14)

17 Cub Packs (Cubs aged 8 - 10½)

12 Beaver Colonies (Beavers aged 5¾ - 8)

Our Aim

The aim of the District is the same as that of The Scout Association - to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

Our method of achieving the aim is by supporting Groups to provide an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training and a balanced and adventurous programme of activities, based on the Scout Promise and Law, and guided by skilled, enthusiastic adult leaders.

Our Vision

To offer effective Scouting to the maximum number of young people through a Scout District which is:

·         Growing - with an increasing section, leader and administrator membership;

·         Balanced – with a membership that represents the resident community in gender, age and ethnicity;

·         Vibrant - led by enthusiastic warranted leaders and supported by capable, eager volunteers;

·         Focused - with stronger Groups offering Scouting to all geographical areas of the District;

·         Professional - with a strong financial and administrative governance base and with skilled, knowledgeable leaders;

·         Relevant - triggering a strong public perception, socially, politically and commercially;

·         Diverse  - celebrating and reflecting the diverse communities represented by the District.

Achieving the Vision

Our vision can be achieved by providing:

a)     Encouragement for the development of Scouting in the District so that all young people have the opportunity to experience fun, friendship, adventure, challenge and new experiences.

b)     Support for leaders and administrators so that they feel recognised and valued and take pride in their Scouting work.

c)      An active and focused District Management Team that will develop and maintain leader motivation through shared experiences; supported learning; forward planning and specific, tailored support.

d)     Facilities for training and adventure at a developing Frylands Wood Scout Camp-site that is operated on a sound financial, managerial and administrative basis.

e)     High quality, exciting programmes of activity at both Group and District level, delivered by reliable, trained leaders who have abilities and skills appropriate for their role.

f)        Training for all adults whether leading, supporting or managing Groups which is appropriate, effective and innovative.

g)     A useful, aspirational and supportive District structure with effective systems for communication.
